Whew! Tattoo session done, new tattoo on body check! Now that you have your new tattoo, I don’t think you would let anyone touch it just yet, and I know you would not want that to be infected, sore or whatever so I listed down a few tips on how to take care of your new ink and how to make it last because after all, the tattoo artist is not responsible of your body after the session, YOU are! So, here goes the list I made for taking care of your brand new tattoo.
1. Bandage Rappage
The bandage that the tattoo artist carefully and meticulously applied is there with a purpose. It is not just a piece of cloth to cover your beautiful tattoo but is a protection against airborne bacteria that can feed on your tattoo because it is still a wound, whether you like it or not. Don’t touch or remove it until after two hours from your session unless you have been applied the “saran wrap”, this kind of bandage is dangerous for your tattoo because it is made of plastic thus you should remove it ASAP.
2. Washing the Tat
Of course you may be able to remove the bandage that the artist placed after a few hours and the only thing you should do afterwards is wash the area clean and gently by using lukewarm water and an antibacterial soap (mild of course!). You should use your hand in cleaning the area and if you notice a little bit of jellylike substance then you should remove that also, that is plasma and it can cause ugly scabs when you don’t remove them. Take precaution when washing it because the wound is still fresh and do not ever use a scrub or towel in washing the area if you don’t want to have abrasions.
3. Scabbing Stage and Sun protection
After a few days, you might notice your tattoo peeling and scabbing, a little bit of this is normal so you should not worry about it. Poorly executed tattoos cause excessive peeling and you can’t do anything about it anymore. Application of warm compresses are soothing and therapeutic for the scabs. Do not attempt to peel it off,or scratch it when it is very itchy because it will leave scratches on the wound. If your skin is peeling just put lotion on it gently to moisturize it and prevent it from ugly scarring. After your tattoo is healed, you should be protecting it from the sun because the sun is one of the main reasons why the color fades or changes.
I hope this helped you guys and enjoy your new tattoo!
